Wedding Rings - How to Choose a Perfect Ring

wedding bandsWedding Rings. Getting married and want to find a perfect wedding ring? With so many styles and materials it can be difficult to make a choice. Being an intelligent consumer, you should learn what your options are before you go to the jewelry shop

Selecting a wedding ring isn't as easy as it looks. You are going to wear your ring for the rest of your life, so it should be something you won't get tired of in a couple years. You will have to look at and try on many different rings before you come to a final decision and, being an intelligent consumer, you should know what your options are. First, you will have to decide how much you can afford to spend. Then, with your budget in mind, choose the material you want your ring made of. Wedding ring materials can be:

* 14K or 18K yellow gold, classic and still very popular for wedding and engagement rings
* white gold, which is gaining popularity because it looks stylish and very modern. Also white gold can be worn with silver or platinum jewelry and it goes with most fabrics
* platinum is one of the hardest metals, which in itself makes platinum a suitable symbol for enduring love. It is also very pure: while 18 K gold contains only 75% gold, most platinum jewelry is 95% platinum.
* Platinum rings look similar to white gold, are very elegant and stylish, don't scratch and don't loose their look with the passing years. Platinum rings are the most expensive but, considering that you will wear your ring for the rest of your life, that doesn't really matter for many couples titanium is long lasting, light and not very expensive, so it has recently became a very popular material for wedding rings. Titanium rings are similar in appearance to white gold rings but they are so light that you can hardly feel one on your finger. Titanium is a particularly popular material for men's wedding rings

When choosing the material, think of what would work best with your clothes and the other jewelry you usually wear. Is your jewelry box filled with gold or silver? If your favorite pieces are silver, it is a good idea to get a white gold, titanium or platinum wedding ring. Alternatively, you could get two tone ring - usually made from white and yellow gold. This type of ring would match silver jewelry as well as gold. Some women also want to match their wedding rings with their engagement rings. This is certainly something to take into consideration, if you plan to wear both rings on the same hand. Another option is to wear your wedding ring on the left hand and your engagement ring on your right hand - in which case they should probably still be the same color, but don't have to match so closely. Which wedding ring style to choose? There are many styles available, so everybody can find a ring to suit their tastes. When it comes to style, though, the first thing you have to decide is if you both will wear similar rings or if each will select one that expresses his or her personality. The most popular styles are:

* Traditional plain bands - even though they are plain, they will always be stylish and fashionable. These are also best suited for men who aren't accustomed to wearing jewelry
* Bands with beaded edges are a little more elaborate
* Two-tone bands which can be worn with either gold or silver jewelry
* Celtic wedding rings are really hot how. Covered with ancient knotwork designs, they look really stylish
* Solitaire rings with a single precious stone
* Solitaries with accents - rings with a large stone and several smaller stones around it
* Channel diamond rings

The best gem stones for wedding rings Diamonds are unbeatable favorites for wedding rings and with good reason - not only are diamonds the most beautiful and expensive of all precious stones, but they are also the hardest. Other hard stones are rubies and sapphires. Gemstones like amethyst or aquamarine are too soft, which makes them unsuitable for a wedding ring that you are going to wear every day. No matter which style and material you chose, you want a ring that would be comfortable on your finger. For this reason it is always best to go with a ring that is smooth around the edges.

Tungsten Carbide Rings Wedding

wedding bandsTungsten carbide wedding rings have become amazingly popular recently, and its popularity continues to grow. Tungsten is a great choice for a men's wedding ring because of its hardness. You can run a steel file across a tungsten ring and it will not scratch the surface one bit. In fact, the steel file will become dulled from the hardness of the tungsten. This makes the wedding rings somewhat permanently polished and never needing refinishing.

Tungsten has the highest melting point of any metal in the world at 6700 degrees F, the surface temperature of the sun. It is truly the most indestructible metal that you can choose for your wedding ring. Before purchasing your ring take the time to find out what alloy is used to make the item. Tungsten can be made with carbide or with cobalt and you should stay away from cheap rings made with cobalt. Cobalt can cause a very bad skin reaction and cause the metal to corrode. The jewelry made in tungsten cobalt can also become brittle and shatter on your finger if hit by a blunt object.

A tungsten carbide ring can't be sized and when your finger size changes the ring must be completely re-made. You should choose a company that is willing to provide a reasonable sizing policy when you need adjustments made. Rokstok provides a Ring for Life program which includes lifetime sizing, lifetime loss replacement, and lifetime re-polishing if you every scratch it. If you lose the ring Rokstok will replace the ring free of charge, a small deductible will apply.

Tungsten feels rich when worn because of its luxurious weight and is known has a "heavy metal". Their densities makes it very heavy compared to platinum, titanium or palladium and it will never become bent or out of round. The metal is mined from Wolframite ore, an element symbolized by (W) on the periodic table of elements. In a raw form tungsten is very soft and doesn't get its hardness until combined with carbon and nickel. Tungsten carbide has many industrial uses and has been used in the aviation industry to make rocket engine nozzles. Other uses are for drilling and cutting because it is harder than any other metal on the planet. Although Tungsten is the hardest metal on earth you can scratch your wedding ring if it comes in contact with various abrasives made with corundum or carbide. In the event that this happens you can send your ring back to Rokstok and we'll re-finish the ring or replace it under our Ring for Life program.

There is a big misconception that Tungsten wedding ring can't be cut off or removed from your finger when there is a medical emergency. This is not true, your ring can be removed using pair of vice grips by squeezing them until the ring cracks in half. Tungsten wedding rings are not indestructible and can be chipped or cracked if hit against a blunt surface. In the unlikely event that your Rokstok ring is damaged you can send it back for a new one free of charge. A small deductible and shipping charges will apply.

Tungsten wedding rings can be adorned with gorgeous precious metals including platinum, sterling silver, 18k yellow gold, and mokume gane. The ring will not scratch easily but the precious metals will need refinishing from time to time, Rokstok will provide this service free of charge. Rokstok creates unique wedding ring styles by setting diamonds and gemstones in Tungsten.

Before You Buy Wedding Bands

wedding bandsLong after the wedding photos are stored away, your wedding bands will remain a visible and beautiful reminder of the day you wed, the vows you took, and your enduring marriage. To ensure the shiny rings you select remain as cherished on your 50th anniversary as on your wedding day, consider these factors before you buy:

Know Your Jewelry Style
Are most of your clothes classic, contemporary, or casual? Do designer labels fill your closet? Choose a wedding-band style that complements your wardrobe, and you'll have a ring that matches your look and life-style. Well-known and talented jewelry designers creating some of the most artful rings around today include Henry Dunay, Whitney Boin, Christian Bauer, Reinstein & Ross, and Alex Sepkus.

* Top 3 Classic Wedding Bands

Decide on a Precious Metal
Gold or platinum? It might seem a simple choice, but there are things to consider if you pick gold. First there's color: Do you prefer yellow gold? White ? Or rosy-pink? Then there's the amount of gold content, which ranges from standard 14k, to finer 18k, to 22-24k (which can be too soft to hold a shape over the years). Platinum, today's "hot" metal, is more expensive and heavier than gold.

Stones or No Stones?
Diamonds and other precious stones add to the cost of a ring. If you have an engagement diamond ring, a matching diamond wedding band can be a beautiful complement. Of course, not all young couples can afford diamond bands (and most men don't care for them). You can always start out with simple gold rings -- and upgrade when an important anniversary rolls around.

Find a Jeweler You Trust
Visit a local jeweler with a good reputation to see what types of wedding bands he or she stocks. While there, ask the jeweler to measure your ring sizes. If you don't see something you like, the jeweler may be able to custom-order a design. You may be able to find good deals and a wider range of designs from online jewelers.

Matching or Not?
Today most couples select rings that either match or have common elements. Typically a woman's wedding band is smaller in size but a few millimeters taller than a man's. Couples with different tastes can find common ground in rings of the same metal, but not necessarily the same design. Whatever beautiful style you ultimately decide on, wear it proudly and for a lifetime.
